Dell mouse / cursor jumping around

Problem: Your cursor (mouse / pointer) is jumping around when you use your dell touch pad (with synaptics driver) and driving you INSANE.

Solution: Are you using your own charger / AC adapter? I realized that the problem in my case was that I was using my friend’s dell charged for Dell Latitude (which I thought was the same thing).. That fixed the problem. You might also want to update your synaptics drivers.

Inspiron 1420/1520/1720 integrated microphone in Ubuntu

Problem: The integrated microphone next to the webcam on Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 laptops does not work with (in such programs as Skype, for example)

Solution: Open terminal and type in:

sudo alsamixer

And change the option all the way on the right to “DIGITAL” (it should be set to “ANALOG” by default). Changing it to Analog should fix the problem.

Palm TX turns on by itself / Screen noise

Problem: Palm TX turns on by itself / your Palm automatically turns on every (fill in the blank) seconds/minutes.
Solution: Uninstall recently installed software. In my case, the problem was caused by DigiFix (screen calibrator)
Solution 2: Check versamail autosync and uncheck the “autosync” checkbox.
Solution 3: Turn off beam receive.
